123 Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for Your Business

What is a KPI?

A Key Performance Indicator is a value about your business that is measureable that tells you how your company is doing. Businesses use KPI’s to keep track of their successes or failures and use them to have measureable goals.

A marketing department might track the click though rate of a campaign, number of leads received, social likes, etc. Sales might track lead to closing rate, total profitability and commissions. Every department within a company can have their own KPI.

Why are KPI’s important?

Sometimes companies produce too much data, it becomes noise and overwhelms managers and C-level executives. Just looking at key KPI’s gives you an instant snapshot about your company and allows you to easily take action on that data.

Just think about the KPI’s your doctor uses about your health. At a regular office visit, he might run some blood work and order a limited amount of tests to see how you’re doing. It might come back with your glucose, cholesterol, blood sugar, thyroid markers, etc. He doesn’t just order up $5,000 MRI’s for a regular visit, he uses basic tests to get an idea of your overall health.

Business KPI’s function the same way, they give you a quick idea about how a company is doing on a daily, weekly, monthly or yearly basis.

What KPI’s Should You Track?

The thing is every business is different and will have their own unique KPI’s they should know and understand. A waste processing plant might have a KPI of gallons of raw sewage treated per hour. I assure you that this KPI most probably won’t apply to your business but there are general KPI’s that apply to most businesses that you need to think about.
